EIS Timelines

CEQ has collected data and published three reports on the time taken by Federal agencies to prepare environmental impact statements (EIS) under NEPA.

2025 Report: The 2025 CEQ report updates the earlier government-wide EIS data and analysis to now include 1,903 EISs for which a final EIS was published between January 1, 2010, and December 31, 2024.

2020 Report: In this update to the 2018 report, CEQ compiled data on timelines for 1,276 EISs for which a final EIS was published between January 1, 2010, and December 31, 2018, and a record of decision (ROD) was issued by June 18, 2019.

2018 Report: In this report, CEQ compiled data on timelines for 1,161 EISs for which a final EIS was published between January 1, 2010, and December 31, 2017, and a ROD was issued by June 7, 2018.
